Our Story
The Flight That Changed Everything
More than ten years ago, two strangers crossed paths for only a fleeting moment in an airport restaurant while waiting for flights to destinations neither could have imagined would eventually lead them back to one another.

She noticed him from across the room. She wasn’t really looking, but she remembers thinking, “Wow… definitely not ugly.” Which, in her particular language of compliments, was practically a declaration.
Hours later, tired and ready to get home, she was one of the last passengers to board her flight from Phoenix to Philadelphia. She found her middle seat toward the back of the plane, tossed her backpack onto it—and looked up.
There he was.
The same man.

What followed was five hours neither of them could have predicted. Instead of the usual polite airplane small talk, two strangers somehow opened the door to something remarkably rare: a completely effortless, honest, and deeply personal conversation.
They shared stories about their childhoods, families, education, careers, hopes, mistakes, dreams, and the complicated work of rebuilding family bonds through difficult transitions. Between the laughter and banter were conversations about the choices they had made, the lives they were creating, and the futures they hoped might still unfold.
Together, they wondered aloud whether they were making the “right” decisions on their very separate paths. Neither offered answers or advice. Instead, they simply listened. They understood.
By the time the plane landed five hours later, the handsome stranger from the airport had somehow become someone who felt familiar—someone she could easily have imagined knowing since childhood. Someone she genuinely wanted to see happy.
And then… they walked off the plane.
No phone numbers. No grand gesture. No promise to stay in touch.
Just two names and the quiet feeling that something meaningful had happened.

Life carried them in different directions. They became Facebook friends, and every now and then he would send a thoughtful message from somewhere along his travels, remembering the connection they had made on that airplane. They watched one another's lives unfold from afar—children growing, careers changing, families evolving—and quietly cheered each other on.
There was no romance.
Just friendship.
Or so they thought.
Although they had met in Arizona, both had grown up around Philadelphia. Eventually, she moved to California. He moved to Arizona. Years passed, and their lives continued to unfold on separate paths.
Until one day, another unexpected message appeared.
He had accepted a new position that included California and wondered if she might still be living in Orange County—and, if so, whether she might want to meet for a drink or a meal.
She said yes.
The intention was simple: catch up, laugh about the years that had passed, and discover where life had taken them.

But the moment they saw each other again, something felt immediately familiar.
The laughter came easily. The smiles didn't stop. The stories picked up right where they had left off, as though the years between them had simply disappeared.
The reunion was joyful, uncomplicated, and strangely natural.
And somewhere along the way, the friendship became something more.
It took her nearly two years to admit—or perhaps simply stop denying—that she was actually dating the “definitely not ugly” guy from the airport.
The man who already knew so much of her story—the polished parts and the messy ones, the ordinary and the sordid—and somehow still chose her exactly as she was.
What began as a fleeting glance in an airport restaurant became a five-hour conversation between two strangers.
That conversation became a friendship.

That friendship became a reunion.
And that reunion became a love story.
Today, they look back with gratitude at the improbable path that brought them together—not only as partners, but as a family woven from six incredible children, two families, countless stories, and a love that grew from genuine friendship and understanding.
They feel extraordinarily lucky to know and love one another, and to know and love the beautiful people who came with them.
And perhaps the most beautiful part of their story is that the flight wasn't really the beginning or the ending.
It was simply the first chapter of a story that life wasn't finished writing.
A story filled with laughter, joy, celebrations, reflection, friendship, family, and love.
A story that began with two strangers sitting beside each other on an airplane…
…and continues, all these years later, with two people who are grateful they never really lost their way back to each other.
